Memoirs of a Gaysian

YouTube Obsessions! (Video Page)

Okay, so I spend far too much time on YouTube, probably to the extent of being unhealthy with it. Here are my current obsessions. (Bold = New)

——————-

* The Ultimate Amalgamation – Barbra Streisand sung by Beyonce! On 12/30/08, Barbra Streisand was honored by the Kennedy Center. Many performers came out to support the well deserved honoree by singing some of her biggest hits such as: Don’t Rain On My Parade, Lover Come Back To Me, and Some where. By far my favorite performance was Beyonce singing Streisand’s Classic “The Way We Were.” She kept it classy and truly honored the work and did it justice without overdoing it. I can’t even describe the perfection, So LISTEN TO IT!

I love this video because it shows me (and others) it is totally okay to sing not in your own gender, and ten bucks says you’ll be awesome (if you’re talented), and sounds better than the actual gender it is written for. Meg and Sho are former Glinda and Elphaba, respectively, from Broadway’s WICKED

This Guy (Alejandro Manzano) is amazing! So chill, and just a great musician. He makes this medley his own, and seriously, I would totally buy a CD of his Covers. (He is also part of a Band, BOYCE AVENUE)

Seth Rudetsky is probably one of my favorite people involved with the theatre. He is simply fabulously hilarious! He is a Broadway Musical conductor and pianist, and “Amahzingly” funny. Watch his deconstruction of Barbra Walters, you’ll pea yourself.

AHHHHHH! Natalie Weiss is an amazing eerging talent in the music world and theatre track. She graduated from Penn State(?) w/ a MT degree and is now just all over youtube. Watch her blow this song out of the water. (Alto’s Lament, so funny and awesome)

Once again a Seth Rudetsky Video, but not of his amazing comedy, but his amazing talent pool of friends. This is a benefit concert-esque that Seth Hosts annually, called Broadway 101. It shows audiences the nitty gritty behind the scenes stuff of a show. This a quick change in EVITA, starring JULIA MURNEY! Amazing! ( listen to her “stand Up” in Buenes Aires!)

Black Woman + Riffing + “Funny Girl” = PERFECTION ( Lilias White)

This is Carolee Carmello, of Parade fame. She is singing a Barbra Streisand tune from Funny Girl. I am completely obsessed with her voice and how amazing it is! Her vibrato to some is too much, but listen to how quickly it moves! It makes the music drive and you can feel the passion that she is portraying (Plus she sings some crazy high notes). It is pure beauty!

Okay, many know Sara Ramirez as Dr. Cali Torres From Grey’s Anatomy. What few know is that she is a Tony Nominated actress and a crazy, amazing beltress. Her ability to play with the melody is impecable and her phrasing is beautiful. The song “Grateful” is written by John Bucchino (whom I recently fell in love with, his work that is). This song is either performed by John himself or Billy Porter (in recordings), but Sara takes the song and makes it her own.

I have a little crush on him I think. Listen to his phrasing and vocal flexibility….delicious! and it is Real, I swear!!!!
